Hair update -- 6 months

Heeeeeyyyyy!  Here's a recap of the last few weeks and then I'll get to the hair update.

My Soror had a baby girl!

Saying hello to Niyah Jiann.

Daniel and I went ice skating.  We went on a great night--it was 63 degrees!

Free cider!

A few days prior to going, we discussed how badly we were going to do at skating.  Neither of us have been ice skating since we were kids.  The day arrives and we get on the ice and I struggle for balance and look up not even 30 seconds later and look who's speeding towards me.  Really?!?  We just got on the ice and you've already lapped me!

I thought you said you couldn't skate!

Balancing on the ice---pretty much all I could do.

I baked more cookies:  sugar, snicker-doodle, and chocolate chip.  These are for Christmas with my family, so after cooling, I placed them in the freezer.

Daniel's birthday arrived.  His family are Jehovah's Witnesses, so he's never celebrated before.  Since this is his first birthday as my husband, I wanted to do something special for him.  I bought a few presents, hid them, and placed them on the dining room table for him to see when he woke up.

One of the gifts was an electronic helicopter (he's such a kid).  I think he liked it.

Reading the instructions to his  toy  electronic action vehicle.

I went to the doctor.  Again.

The height of fashion--paper blouses.  I just die for the sharp shoulders.

I'm considering getting a nose ring, so I bought some jewel stickers to test out the look.  What do you think?

My fake nose ring.

And now---the 6 month update.

I am SICK and TIRED of this hair.  I wear it in a bun daily and it is just not cute in any way, shape, or form. It's frizzy and extra thick.  Sometimes it's even lumpy.   Luckily, I'm getting a straw set on Wednesday.  After that, I am seriously considering a wig.  It's difficult to comb/brush.  Flat ironing my hair weekly is just destroying what I'm trying to protect.  I cringe just looking at the following photos.

I know I can stick it out---I'm halfway there.  That doesn't mean that I won't be complaining about it.  Especially considering that my coworker is transitioning as well and she has this beautiful wavy/curly pattern emerging.  I've got----frizz and lumps.  Oh well.

Here's your dose of Tierra Skye.

Mom!  Umm.  I swear that shoe was already there.  I wasn't playing with it or biting it, or nothin'.

Happy ChristmaHanuKwanzakah!

  1. Sorry you're struggling with your transition. I had a hard time dealing through mine because I didn't know how to handle my own hair. I kept sew-ins, weaves, and braids. If I knew then what I know now, I think the transition would have been a lot easier.

  2. HI Courtney! Thanks for posting your blog! I know it is hard. For some of us that has the tight curl pattern, the transition and the after is still hard. I would say look at the bigger picture, and if you have to do sew-ins or some form of weave, it will be fine. Just know that even with the flat ironing, our hair still has a mind of its own. My hair came out with one of the braid sets I got because I am hard on my own hair. I'm happier with my hair now, but it's still challenging
